Typical Questions we often ask of many people in this section is " What Operating system are you running ?" or "How Much RAM?" or even "What version of software is that program running?" Without this information We are running around almost blindly Most of the Information is found in the System Information section in Windows but for beginners It's a twisty route in and several screens of information which is hard to interpret
But I have found a tiny freeware program called Belarc Advisor which is about 590K which displays on a web page all the above info and much more including those missing CD keynumbers for your Windows disk and much, much more including Hotfix download numbers! off Microsoft So next time,if you are asked the question:What version of Internet Explorer have you? You run the program (copy and paste the answer into the reply box ) You reply thus: Internet Explorer Version 6.00.2800.1106 (and revision numbers as well ) Only thing I don't want people to do, is post the entire page because it shows some sensitive information which can get a hacker into your computer If that happens I shall inform the Moderator to edit the page and I trust the other answerers will do the same? Thanks
Ps The program runs on all Windows programs bar 3.1 **************************************************************** 05-26-04, 10:22 PM Tree Bedstor, Dwight had me download this program to show him my computer information and it certainly came in very handy!

Is this topic of what system, computer, ect. helpful to running the site? If so, I will post that information.
Otherwise, I really couldn't care less, just as long as it works. I treat my computer about like my car. I change the oil, I update my virus software, and all those things to keep them healthy. With initial purchase, I'm picky and price shop. After I own it, I just try to take good care of it.
Let me know!! **************************************************************** 08-02-05, 10:24 PM bedstor

Myself and Tree post on another site www.webuser.co.uk which is mainly concerned with internet issues Many beginners post there and they ask the same as you some are senior citizens Best advice I can give them before posting Look around the postings Lurking does pay off before posting and friendly sites like here and the link above will help you Smile Be aware there are some sites with little in the way of help for newbies Mad They expect you to know what you are talking about! Mad
OH and the subject is the computer you are working on now (What makes it tick inside?) Wink **************************************************************** 08-02-05, 11:26 PM Wildflower63 My computer questions are pretty easy for members here. I know and trust you all for good advice. Thanks for the link, but I don't feel that I need it. I will ask here, to people I trust.
I only wanted to know if it was helpful to the site for computer info. Apparently it isn't. That's all I wanted to know. I do thank all of you for the help you have given with my questions over the last few years. You haven't led me wrong. **************************************************************** 08-02-05, 11:50 PM bedstor Thank you Smile My policy is to get the correct information If I cannot answer it I pass it on to somebody that can.For instance HijackThis logs (need to be very experienced to read these and give advice) I see anything like this it is put into the specialist forum at Webuser at the first opportunity **************************************************************** 02-09-07, 10:42 PM bedstor There is another Program you can try out (freeware) called SIW SIW is an utility that includes detailed specs for Software, Hardware and Network. Also real-time monitors for CPU and Memory Usage. Cool This also finds Program passwords!(if you have lost them?) SHH!! Wink
Read this and go WOW!
quote: SIW performs computer configuration analysis and diagnostics. It gives detailed information about your computer properties and settings, detailed specs for: • Software: Operating System, Installed Software and Hotfixes, Processes, Services, Users, Open Files, System Uptime, Installed Codecs, Licenses. • Hardware: Motherboard, Sensors, BIOS, CPU, chipset, PCI/AGP, USB and ISA/PnP Devices, Memory, Video Card, Monitor, Disk Drives, CD/DVD Devices, SCSI Devices, S.M.A.R.T., Ports, Printers. • Network: Network Cards, Network Shares, currently active Network Connections, Open Ports. • Tools: Password Recovery, Reveal passwords hidden behind asterisks, Product Keys and Serial Numbers (CD Key), MAC Address Changer, Shutdown / Restart. • Real-time monitors: CPU, Memory, Page File usage and Network Traffic. SIW can create a report file (CSV, HTML, TXT or XML), and is able to run in batch mode (for PC Auditing and Inventory). SIW is a standalone utility that does not require installation - one less installed program on your PC as well the fact that you can run the program directly from a USB flash drive (Portable Freeware).
All this is packed in a program download of....Just over 1 MB (1.29 MB) Is not locked into Windows Cool
There are dozens of screen shots click on the Links on the Blue Menu bar on this Page to see them Smile
I've Not Road tested it, but it looks very useful Cool
Just installed it and It Is GOOD (had a quick scan)
Does what it says, And then Some.. Lots of Facts displayed...and they are all copyable So If you are asked about Versions Open the Program line right click on it and the copy command is there Cool Definitely a 5 star program Cool
Only thing that lets it down being a 100% program and that is you have to make a short cut to it otherwise have to click on the green SIW folder to start it Roll Eyes **************************************************************** 02-10-07, 08:57 AM vansrme Thanks for that link to this program bedstor! Looks like it'll be more effective than PC Wizard 2007! I'll use both, and maybe that will help to ID some of these motherboards I've been having trouble with lately.

PC WIZARD 2007 is a powerful utility designed especially for detection of hardware, but also some more analysis. It's able to identify a large scale of system components and supports the latest technologies and standards. This tool is periodically updated (usually once per month) in order to provide most accurate results.
PC WIZARD 2007 is also an utility designed to analyze and benchmark your computer system. It can analyze and benchmark many kinds of hardware, such as CPU performance, Cache performance, RAM performance, Hard Disk performance, CD/DVD-ROM performance, Removable/FLASH Media performance, Video performance, MP3 compression performance.

Nothing is 'free', especially on the net. I am downloading nothing or get spyware or a virus. No one pays up for net space with good intent.
Members here have helped me with my computer problems and I greatly appreciate this. However, I don't suggest anyone use these 'free' net sites.
The things you've written in this thread are all responses you've made in response to this question in the past. Dorian has consolidated them all on the same post to save space.
And there certainly are helpful sites out there with free stuff. Your response is a major over-exaggeration. Just look on download.com. If there's any place to go to find free stuff, it especially IS the internet. Just look at all the places you can listen to music for free. The old idea that nothing is free in the world is just not true.

Web development - Color pickers, HTML editors, Log analyzers, ...
And that's on just a 1/3rd of the page without going into the links themselves And... They have got rid of the Freeware (with added nasties)
And, they are looking for new sites for this directory. Note AP doesn't qualify unless there is a free answerboard or forum section created. You can submit a site name they will check it out and only display it if poses no risk to vistors or users. and Finally it must be totally freeware
