Having a bit of trouble getting my questions answered here, but I'll try with another one. I keep getting a little pop up that says my firewall is not turned on. But when I go to control panel/Windows Firewall, it indicates the firewall IS on. How do I know which is right?

Catty I posted a tip on another computer forum on this Issue the other week.

goes
quote:
Here is a clearer fast way to check if your Network is Firewalled
on XP
Open the Control Panel,Click on Windows Firewall then the Advanced Tab
And the Network Connections box should have 5 Links within, 4 if No Firewire (1394) Socket is on the Machine
Only thing to check is that they are All ticked Smile

also posted another way to seee the same info bit hardee Roll Eyes
quote:
Other than checking the Security centre to check if your Firewall is turned on do this quick check too to confirm the Firewall is indeed on. Not a false indicator.
Right Click on any of the Local Area Connection icons, then click on Open Network Connections

And on the Next screen in Plain view all down the List it will have "Firewalled" in the script against every item
Smile

Conclusion you are safe but, there is no indicator to show which Firewall has taken on the primary role Confused

PS Is a site-wide problem mustering help in the past few months though the unanswered questions pile is still small
Keep them coming Catty Smile

Thank you, bedstor dear. I have done that (the one for the wireless connection was unchecked). I'll bet that does the job.

Don't worry, I'll have lots more questions and where else would I bring them than dear old AP?

Maybe you would attract more interest if your topic titles were less cutesy and more informative.

Titles like "Help I did a no-no" and "Ok here's another" are less than helpful.
