I'm having sound problems on my computer, I don't know if its my speakers or if its something else, but the sound cuts and ...I find it hard to describe, but its just shaky and cutting, like what it would sound like if a CD is skipping, and is most of the time only noticeable when I'm listening to slow songs. I know its not the program I'm using to play music, because I use several different players. My speakers and computer are relatively new, so I don't know why its happening.

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong and how to fix it?

Hi Yelena
As you say it can be several things
Lets start with sound drivers a reload of these might cure this
But we'll need a lot of info .To save time look at the top of this forum and download run the Belarc Advisor program. It may show you the driver name? If so I'll find another to update it Wink

My copy of Belarc has gone walkabout Confused (not displaying )I'm going from memory

Could be just needs the lense cleaning? Roll Eyes
Need a special CD to do this they are very cheap (buy them in a record store) All you do is dab a bit of the cleaning solution on the brush on the CD then pop it in the drive give it about a minute or so then try your Music CD again Wink
While the CD tray is out, look carefully for any hairs in and under the tray, and pull them out as best you can. A hair waving in front of the lense can make the CD sometimes difficult to read Confused Top loading CD Players are very suspect on this issue The lense is exposed to the open air Hence attracts all sort of muck even fingerprints!Mad PS a fingerprint is fatal for the lense, the oil in the skin marks it permanently! Good answers from bedstor! I would add some other possiblilities including trying more than 1 audio CD.

If they all exhibit this "skipping" quality, then I would suspect the CD-ROM drive. If only 1 CD is "skipping", then I would believe the problem is with the CD itself (scratched or damaged).

If all the CD's do this "skipping" you might try removing (un-installing) the CD-ROM software, then re-installing it to see if the problem goes away.

To un-install the CD-ROM software, right click on the "My Computer" icon on the Desktop or possibly in your start menu. Depending upon which version that you're running, you may need to click the "Hardware" button. Then click the "Device Manager" button or tab (again, depending on the OS version).

Click the + sign to the left of the CD-ROM entry to "expand" the CD-ROM folder. Select the CD-ROM and then either click the "Remove" button or right click on the CD-ROM and choose "Uninstall" (depending on the OS version).

Once these steps are completed, OK the window and restart your computer. At Windows startup, Windows will recognize the CD-ROM hardware and automatically re-install the drivers for your installed CD-ROM.

Try your audio CD and see if the "skipping" problem is gone. If not, please try the cleaning procedure as outlined by bedstor above.

I hope this will help!

Ooh I never thought about that (that it may need cleaning), but it troubles me if its already dirty because its new. I'll try unstalling and reinstalling it, hopefully I won't do any permanent damage. Red Face
