Here in the US you can buy a new keyboard for as little as 10 USD. Keyboard problems - buy a new keyboard!

If it happened suddently from one minute to the next, you can always do a "system restore" to a previous date. It might not be the keyboard.

This sounds like a hardware problem with your shift key. Have you tried both the left and right side shift keys? Same on both?

Have you tried plugging in an external keyboard? Does this solve the problem? If so, it is likely that your laptop keyboard-interpreter chip is faulty. If this is the case, try taking the computer to a repair shop. Another option is to use a moble external keyboard. They can be wireless and small enough to be easily transported. Keyboards can be connected with either a USB plug, a PS2 connector or via Bluetooth.

Thanks, Dwight. I've already taken the computer to my local repairman [Plenty of those in the 'silicon valley' that's grown up around Cambridge. He's one of two in the next village, alone Smile] So I remain hopeful.
