Have recently had a problem with desktop icons losing thier targets.

this normally happens with only two drive icons

iomega external zip drive ( I ) & floppy drive ( A )

On attempting to open
the message box states that ( This Is an Invalid application path)

I then click on FIND TARGET and It runs as It should do, It will be ok for a while then It happens again.

Yet If I go to start and then my computer I can right click and open as normal

Im on XP pro

Hi koicarp, strange one this! I have searched around in NG`s etc. for people with the same problem hoping to find a solution,so far no luck...the following is my best stab at it Smile
have you tried dragging the icons from my computer onto the desktop, rather than right clicking them?
I am running XP home and have desktop shortcuts to my floppy and Iomega drive, here is the right click properties info.(the same for both appart from obviously the name and drive letter)

General tab:-
ZIP750 (F)
Type of file: Shortcut
Description: F:\
Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop
Size: 185 bytes (185 bytes)
Size on Disc: 4.00KB (4,096 bytes)

Attributes: Read Only and Hidden....unticked
Advanced button: Archiving and fast searching....ticked, Compress...unticked

Shortcut tab:-
Target Type: Removable Disk
Target Location: F:\
Target: F:\
Start in: no entry
Shortcut key: None
Run: Normal window
Comment: no entry
Advanced button:-
Run with different credentials....unticked
Run in seperate memory space......ticked
Both of these options I can`t change though as they are greyed out!
maybe by comparing these properties to yours a clue might emerge Big Grin

I share koicarps experience. No answer here either, but I have tried redders method (I deleted all the icons and reset them by right clicking within My Computer) will see how this works.
