I have some programs that are not in the program files folder. Therefore they are not in the Add/Remove list. Some are language programs. The kids installed those. Specifically I installed an old Scrabble program. It doesn't install the whole disk, only like a start up section. It works but I am wondering why it installed there and not in the Program Files folder. If I want to uninstall, would I just delete it? In other words: is it ok to stay there?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Do not just delete it. That leaves undesireable data in your registry and could cause problems. Most programs come with an un-install option, look for that.

Sometimes a good way to correct a problem with missing uninstall files is to reinstall the program, then after restarting the computer, uninstalling it. Look for the installation CD, or if you cannot find the CD, check the program maker's Website to see if it can be downloaded.

In some cases the Website of the program maker will offer a "Clean Uninstall" down loadable program.

If you look into the C:\Program Files folder in your My Computer, C drive you may find an uninstall program listed there. (Note, C drive is the most common installation directory, but it can be installed into other directories, too.)

I hope this is of some help. I also want to say that I agree with Kendor about not just deleting the files. This will likely cause more problems than it solves.

Hi Dwight and Kendor,
thank you for your advice.
First of:
Did I mention that this is an old game?
Watch this:
SCRABBLE® CD-ROM System Requirements
Computer: 486/66 PC with minimum of 8 MB of RAM, mouse.
Windows®: 3.1 or higher, 5 MB available hard dri ve space, minimum 9600
baud modem (for modem play), monitor must support 640x480 with 256 colors.
Macintosh® or Power Macintosh®: 68000 or Power PC chip, 8 MB of
RAM, mouse, System 7 or higher, 5 MB available hard dri ve space, minimum 9600
baud modem (for modem play), monitor must support 640x480 with 256 colors.
Funny or what?
I did mess around and deleted the game.
Then installed it in the program files.
But...Then I had to remove the disk from the CD drive every time. Kind of a drag.
So I un-installed and let it install outside of program files. Works great AND I can keep the disk in the drive.
So far so good.
I don't think way back then they did have an un-install on the disk.
There is nothing on the disk.
Thanks again for helping.
Wish me luck that it keeps working.
Way back - simpler times.
