I would like to convert my keyboard from US to UK. I have tried the method suggested on here but it did not work ie

press alt shift key then pound key.

Looked in control panel and not found any way of changing settings in there. The exact complete way of doing it would be helpful. Linda Drew

Go to Control Panel, regional/languages, and set: English/UK. Note: This pathway refers to Windows XP. In earlier Windows versions, it is changed at: control panel/ keyboard. I don't know what Windows Vista is but I would expect it is similar to WinXP.

Ah ye olde press alt shift key then pound key. method it worked for a while then somehow was not possible
It was I who posted that trick on the UK forums and it was very popular.

I have an alternative way to Dwights method(for XP)
and it can be swapped back in 1 second ,once its set up.
All you do is right click on the bottom border of the desktop for a menu
at the very top there is the Toolbars Item

These are of no use to most people and they are all unticked
But on this occasion click on "Language bar " in the middle of the list and you notice that an Icon appesrs marked "EN" and you'll find if you pass your mouse pointer over it It will show a message namely "English United States" which is the Default setting
But you want the UK English Layout
It may be already to change over?
Try this to check the status
Click on the button and see if English (United Kingdom ) is on the Menu ? If so just click on it to change the setting over and your Keyboard is set for the UK

But if you cannot see it do not despair

Left click on the Button and choose Settings
A box appears and all you do is change the setting (on the menu bar on this page) To United Kingdom and click on the Add button to see
To change the country regional setting to this menu setting (easier than it sounds)
NOTE :There are settings for the extended keyboard layouts on this menu list if you have such a keyboard? also layout setting for verious odd exotic versions of keyboard The basic country setting is all you need For better than 98% of keyboards

If you Highlight any Item in the Box and click the Remove button that setting cannot be used ... My Tip keep Both the settings and should you make an error you'll have 1 in reserve ...Don't want you with a dead keyboard ? Press the "Apply" key to save the new item Ok
And now you have done this job see if the Pound Key(Shift+3) shows a £ or a # ?
I did this by clicking on the Button and swapped the setting over for a second.
Only other route is Normally via the Character Map (for 1 off characters) ...I have mine set to the US Settings which is easier for me despite being in the UK
