This is weird - just started yesterday. When I right click on my desk top to try to get to "properties", I get a light outline of two sides where the menu should appear. I can only see the actual words when my cursor goes over the words - otherwise, they're invisible.

Do you know what I'm trying to say? I know --- it's weird.

Try this:
Start/Control Panel/Display

Open the Appearance tab
Click the "Advanced" button
Scroll down to "menu"

Set a different color than what is currently showing.

OK your selections

Does this make any difference?

If this doesn't help, have you noticed any other anomalies with colors on your system?

Dwight, that changes my desktop colour but my drop down menu remains invisible. It's strange.

Unfortunately, I haven't noticed any other abnormalities.

Try this:
Go back to the Display Properties/Appearance tab and choose a different "Windows and Buttons" setting. OK you setting and see if that made any difference.

I understand that there are no other drop down menus that do this. So if the above doesn't work, post again and we'll try something else. Can you tell us what system that you're using?

WOHOO! I went to "apprearances" and to "effects". Then where is said: "Use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips" I changed "fade effect" to "Scroll effect". VOILA! It's back to normal.

Oh yes, I use XP Home edition.

Funny thing is, I never changed that.... strange how things just happen. Thanks Dwight!
