When my computer starts up, it occasionally gives a message about one of the hard drives needing to be checked for compatibility. It then goes through a (long) scan and repairs some files (it lets you skip this scan). Sometimes, it gets stuck in the middle of this process. When it gats stuck, the only way to turn it off is at the power supply, the button on the front of the case won't work. The message doesn't come up everytime, but once it displays once it does everytime until it successfully makes it through the entire scan.

methos5000,

I had one give me a similar problem once, for mine, it turned out to be a loose jumper, which was causing it to see the hard drive most of the time. Though occasionally, it would give me a similar message to the one you are getting. If that is not the problem, personally, I would go into the BIOS, and (if it has this feature), have it auto-detect the hard drive again, maybe that will help. I know I am not one of the experts here, lol, but I thought I'd throw my 50 cents(inflation) in. Smile Good luck!

I think you may have misunderstood the problem. My computer doesn't have any problem finding the hard drive (although I checked to make sure all the cables were secure, just in case); it just insists that there's somethign wrong with its 'compatibility.' It then repairs it temporarily by repairing certain files, but the same message reoccurs later. Even if I skip this step, everything still works just fine once windows has booted.

I'll look on the elder geek site.
