working on an e-Machine 1999. Lately it takes many tries to read the A-drive. Makes no difference how I try to enter. From desktop. From Explorer. The disc is in the drive but the message says the "drive is inacessable. Retry."

Can I fix this myself? AVG Virus scan negtive.
TIA

First, if you haven't tried different a diskette please do so. The problem may be a bad diskette.

Assuming that you get the same problem with all diskettes, then the problem is most likely with the floppy disk drive.

You can get a used replacement for about $5 at most used computer stores. A new one is around $20 or less. You can also get an external floppy disk drive that plugs into a USB port so that you will not have to remove the old drive and install the new one, although it is not hard to change out a floppy drive.

I hope this helps!
