My computer has been crashing lately. I do the error report when I reboot and it is telling me that it is my device driver. When it crashes the screen turns blue then I have to restart my computer. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? On the error report it says that the reason is unknown. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I assume that your system is Windows XP. If so, you can go into the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer and scroll through the list of service messages. If you find any with a Error message, double click it (open it) and then read the report. (See this image) Note, if the image is too small, click on it to enlarge. You will see a link that you can open to look up the error code.

You can open the link:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

and look up the error code.

You can google the error code, or report the listed information here and we can assist you. If you have more than one, list them here. You need not go back more that one day.

I hope this helps. If your system is something other that Windows XP, please let us know.

Thank you. Yes, I use XP
Here is what the error message says:

Faulting application %1, version %2, faulting module %3, version %4, fault address 0x%5.

I hope that means something to you? I have no clue what that means. Smile
There wasn't anything on there for yesterday though and that is a day that it crashed. Would you know why that is?

Thanks again in advance!

Wait! After looking furter after posting that I found more:
IO_ERR_BAD_BLOCK
The device, %1, has a bad block.

Explanation
The device has a bad block of memory, which Windows attempted to read. The data might be missing or corrupted.

User Action
If this event is logged regularly, replace the hard disk drive.

and:

ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG
Error code %1, parameter1 %2, parameter2 %3, parameter3 %4, parameter4 %5.

Explanation
A blue screen (Stop error) was reported. The message contains details about the error. A matching event with Event ID 1001 might also appear in the event log. This matching event displays information about the specific error that occurred.

User Action
No user action is required.

Maybe that was the one that you were asking for as it is saying about the blue screen.
Thanks again,

A bad block of memory means there may be damage to your hard drive disk.

You can attempt to repair that by following these steps: See this image

1. Close all open programs
2. Right click on the “My Computer" icon and choose “Explore”
3. In the Explore window, scroll (in the left pane) to your C drive and right click on it
4. Choose “Properties”
5. In the “Local Disk C” properties window, click the Tools tab
6. Click the Error checking option
7. In the “Check Disk Local Disk C” window, check both the "automatically fix errors" option and the "scan for and attempt to repair bad sectors" option)
8. In the “Check Disk Local Disk C” window click “Start”
9. In the “Checking Disk Local Disk C window, click “Yes”
10. OK the window to close
11. Restart your computer

The Check Disk scan will take an hour or more and if bad sectors are found, it will attempt to repair them. Once the scan is complete, the computer will restart. See if you are still seeing this error.

If this procedure doesn’t solve the problem, I would suggest you take the computer to a repair shop and see if they think you need to replace the hard drive. If so, in most cases, they can copy your data from the old hard drive and them move it to the new one.
