This Microsoft Support
page will be helpful with this problem.

Once you've had a chance to read the page, you can re-post with more information about your system:

Operating System (Win98, WinME, etc.)
Equipment manufacturer (HP, Gateway, Dell, etc)
Computer model (state if laptop or desktop)

Can you relate the start of this problem to...

Any new hardware added?

Any new programs added?

Can you "duplicate" the error? Is there anything you can do that will always cause this error message?

Is the error a random (occasional) thing, or is it happening frequently?

Any other details you can think of that may be helpful?

I hope something here will help!

Thank you for your quick reply. First, is your system running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2?

If so, did you follow the Compaq WinXP SP2 update guidelines as outlined on This Page.

To find out about Service Pack 2, right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". If you have Service Pack 2 installed, it will say so just after reporting "Windows XP Home Edition".

If you have Service Pack 2 and if you did not follow the guidelines for the update, I suggest you uninstall the Service Pack 2 update. Then follow the steps shown before reinstalling Service Pack 2. Here is how: How to remove SP2.

Also, you might try downloading/installing the BIOS update: Click Here (This assumes this still applies to your system).

If this doesn't solve the problem, please post again. Also, if my memory serves I believe I recall your posting about a graphic display problem. If this is correct and if the problem is not already resolved, I would suggest you install the "Intel Extreme Graphics Driver Update" and the "Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver Update" assuming that both apply to your system.

To find out if your computer has an "Intel Extreme Graphics Driver based card, click Start, Right-click My Computer, select Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Look in Display Adapters for the name of the tuner. Look in the "Sound" section for your sound card details. If your system doesn't have these particular cards, don't download the updates.
