Does XP come with Scandisk or is it called something else? I can't find it. I seem to remember reading something here - but ...

Yes, it's Chkdsk.exe. To scan and repair the C: drive, click Start, Run, type Chkdsk C: /F, and press Enter.

Another way.....Right click C: drive.....click properties......Tools....Click Check now tab...choose what option....Auto fix errors etc.

Will scandisk when reboot....have to reboot.

Another useful utility that XP hides is the SFC which repairs/rebuilds Windows protected files. Fixes up lots of stuff and should be run regularly.
START > RUN > type in SFC /scannow
(put a space between the SFC and the /)
