I seen this tip where you place your friends name into 'favorites' - when you spotted something while browsing and wanted to tell your friend, you just clicked 'favorites/their name' and your E-mail 'compose' page opens with their name already entered in the address bar. ....... I tried to set up this short-cut, but it seems as if there's some info missing [I run win98,2nd.ed.] Can someone help? ... ************************************************ 08-02-03, 01:02 PM Dwight Will you provide more details about this, including the type of email program that you're using.
For instance, where did you see the tip? Is this a program that you installed?
You can send a link or Web page directly to a email address.
When you're on the page you wish to send, click the "File" menu, then the "Send" command. Choose the action you want (Send Page, Send Link or Send a shortcut to your Desktop).
Your email must be showing as the default. To verify this, click on Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab and put your email program in the "Email" box.
I hope this helps!
Dwight ************************************************ 08-02-03, 10:07 PM TomGL2 I think I know what you're getting at. Right-click a clear spot on the Desktop, point to New, and click Shortcut. In Command line, type mailto: followed by the email address (i.e., mailto:billg@microsoft.com), then click Next. Type a suitable name (like "Send Mail to", and the recipient's name), and click Finish.
Open Internet Explorer, then click View, point to Explorer Bar, and click Favorites. Drag the "Send Mail to..." icon from the Desktop to Favorites sidebar, and position it where you prefer before releasing the mouse button. Done. ************************************************ 08-03-03, 01:30 AM Dwight TomGL2, that is a cool tip! Thanks for your post.
Dwight
08-03-03, 06:38 AM TomGL2 Thanks, Dwight, but the only real "coolness" I can take credit for is dragging the shortcut to Internet Explorer's Favorites bar. While each user can have a separate Favorites folder, this guarantees the shortcut ends up in the right one, while simultaneously positioning it in the list.
Creating the shortcut manually was just to point out that "drag&drop" is not the only method, or (in some cases) the best one. ************************************************ 08-04-03, 02:57 AM MuchWyza More about email shortcuts in Favorites:
1. Open Internet Explorer > View menu > Explorer Bar > Favorites, as in TomGL2's typically excellent instructions.
2. Now click anywhere in the Address Bar to highlight it and type "mailto:hansel@gretyl.com" or whoever you want (without any blank spaces and without the quotes, of course.) 3. Now drag the little icon from the Address Bar into the Favorites panel, dropping it wherever you like in the list. (The icon is usually that little blue e on the left side of the address bar.)
4. Now comes the part I like best - a keyboard shortcut. Let's say your recipient's email address is ted@whatever.com. Right-click Ted's new email shortcut and choose 'Properties'. Click beside the word 'None' in the 'Shortcut key' space and enter the letter 't' for Ted. The word 'None' will immediately change to Ctrl + Alt + T.
Now, whenever you want to send him an email, just use Ctrl+Alt+T.
Voila.
You can have any number of email shortcuts in Favorites. You can even type just "mailto:" Then the message will open unaddressed. ************************************************ 08-04-03, 08:44 AM Georgia85 Kewl.....thanks for the great tips. I just set up a shortcut for a work address I use alot...cept used the keyboard shortcut of C for "Carol"....not a good idea cuz Ctrl+Alt+C is for copying text....LOL ************************************************ 08-04-03, 09:57 AM TomGL2 Georgia, Control-C is the usual "copy text" shortcut. ************************************************ 08-04-03, 11:54 AM Georgia85 You're right of course Tom....I just figured that out! Funny how you don't think of the short-cuts until you actually use them! Big Grin ************************************************ 08-04-03, 12:07 PM Tree Hey, I just tried that, TomGL and MuchWyza! Dwight ************************************************ 08-09-03, 03:02 PM Tree Anyone have any other interesting tried short cuts that they are willing to share?
Smile ************************************************ 08-18-03, 04:27 PM kleo2x Cuidado! Con esto missing steeeeeeheeeelp! -- MuchWyza, under part 4., keyboard short cut of your post, it sez: right click new email short cut/choose Properties - click beside 'none' ......... and that puts me right back to the place that prompted this question in the first place. The window that opens for me is 'Ted's short cut properties'. It only has a 'general' tab, the word 'none' is not on this page. I cannot change nor delete anything on this page. (except the 4 boxes at the bottom - hidden, read only, etc.) - So how come I can't get the window your speaking of? & P.S., I do have the addresses in favorites and they do open up in an already addressed envelope. Thnx, 2x
