I am about to toss this thing out the window. It takes forever (4-5 minutes) to connect, to load pages, open links, etc. I get a message, "Waiting for" followed by "Done" but nothing comes up. And while all this is going on, I can't do anything else unless I open a new browser window. I have updated and run the spyware/antivirus stuff, degraged and cleanup - nothing helps. XP and the Butterfly.

HELLLLLLP!

If you're still using dialup, then its not your computer thats being slow - its your internet connection. As time goes on, more and more sites get redesigned for broadband users - making the dialup experience slower and slower.

Thank you, JWooden. I have had a DSL connection for three years.

I have noticed that while loading pages, I get a message "detecting proxy settings." What does that mean, and can I get rid of it? Should I?
