Hi Guys,

I know it should be easy but how do you record a sound file in XP?
I want to copy a conversation from the radio onto my p.c. using a microphone near the radio speaker. Any help would be appreciated.

I've no Idea myself (Good question),I have posted this question on another forum to see if they Know (and I will post any replies here)

Problem I see is the microphone may not grab every thing?
Better way of getting the broadcast is to find out if the programme is being "streamed" online and Some stations BBC is best do hold a copy so you can hear it again later(about a week)So if you miss it you can get back to it Smile
PS The sound quality is 100% online whereas on your radio it is variable Roll Eyes

Thanks for your interest,Bedstor, but I have recorded a conversation I had on the radio with a presenter and now I want to save it as a sound file so I can send it to my son in London.

I posted your question and got this reply
quote:
Is the radio station not available online? Do you have recording/WAV/MP3 software?

So tell us exactly what you did and we can send
off and get you an answer

The above may help

Starting with the basics Where was the mike plugged into?
And the follow up question will be where is the clip you made stored ,File on the computer, floppy disk ?

The trick is going to be how to get that into a readable file, and then it's a cinch to post it in email Roll Eyes
So Tell us what radio channel you got the clip off and whether it was online or was it on say your kitchen table?

Can build up a picture to send a reply to the person who sent that reply .And you'll have your answer very soon Smile

Hi Bedstore,
I was involved in a local radio programme, talking about my son. I recorded the talk on my music centre onto a cassette tape. I now wish to record the sound from the cassette tape via a microphone onto my p.c. I have a microphone which I can plu into my p.c. but just don't know how to record the sound file.

p.s. looking at your location, it would probably be easier to walk up to yours and you could show me!

Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder

You'll have to have a sound card in your PC or this feature won't enable.

Thanks Kendor
Tried what you say, but when I get to entertainments tab it shows "empty".

However the p.c. I've got plays all kinds of videos and c.d's so I assume there is a sound card. I have something called "Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio"> Any other ideas?

this is the driver for the on board sound chip which is what I have too, albeit under another name Realtek Ac97

As regards where I live yes I'm on your doorstep.Though the problem today is all those roadworks in Ormskirk Centre (2 main junctions closed)meaning diverting through the side roads

Sister works in Southport Hospital has to drive the route daily and its added half an hour to her Journey Normally takes Half an hour! Mad(Thats on a clear road!!!)

Back later with an answer Hopefully

Click Start/Run then type "sndrec32.exe" (without the quotes), and click "OK". If it doesn't come up then you don't have it on your PC.

I've just discovered this Page which will show you how to connect your music-centre to the PC is made in 2003 so its aimed @ Windows 98 users but If you have a Sound card (thats the big if ) and it has got Phono sockets thats 99% of the battle won (PS The OS's XP & 98 both have common features in the sound Dept.)
www.delback.co.uk/pcaudiofaq.htm
If after studying the back of your PC you do not have A) The sockets or B) a Sound card.
The only option you have is to Snail-mail the tape to your son In a padded envelope and Mark it MAGNETIC MEDIA - DO NOT SCAN! In big letters

NOTE What does help is to wrap it in an anti static bag Try PARTNERS the stationers by the railway station Map here Phone him first to tell him what you are doing

And the problem of how he's going to listen to it is his not yours
