I am running Windows ME ..on Emonster 1000B/EMachine ..1000 MHz Intel Pentium III, 256 KB, 128 MB SyncDRAM, 20 GB Hard Drive, 8X Max. CDRW , 3D AGP Graphics Intel Direct AGP , 56 K V.90 Modem ....my server is Aol.
I am thinking maybe I should update to Windows XP ....Nerd advice as to go about this ....Do I deleat Windows ME first and then install Windows XP ....First is this a good idea to do at all and do I have what I need also to use XP ...next what about my holders in Windows ME ...do I have to save to a CD and then replace otherwise lose them? And will they be compatable with XP? And can I get XP on Microsoft site ...or is it best to buy so I have the system disc. Also Do I have to reinstall AOL also.
I know there are a lot of questions here , Sorry about that ...Please can someone give me input on this.

Don' Reply: Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/
upgrading/sysreqs.asp

for the system requirement of Win XP Home Edition.

I am thinking maybe I should update to Windows XP....Nerd advice as to go about this....Do I delete Windows ME first and then install Windows XP ....First is this a good idea to do at all

Don's Reply: I think that you should delete Win Me(Reformat) 1st to clean the slate, however be sure you buy a copy of Win XP Home Edition beforehand.

and do I have what I need also to use XP

Don' Reply: See the URL I mentioned.

...next what about my holders in Windows ME ...do I have to save to a CD and then replace otherwise lose them?

Don's Reply: YES, by all means. Did you means 'Folders' here instead of Holders. If you meant Folders, YES make copies on CD-RW(s) or
CD-ROM(s).

And will they be compatable with XP?

Don's Reply: I can't answer this for sure. Make your copies of the Folders. You will have to test each one to see if they are compatible. Also see this URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/
upgrading/checkcompat.asp

And can I get XP on Microsoft site ...or is it best to buy so I have the system disc.

Don's Reply: No, you will have to buy Win XP. You cannot download Win XP from the Network or Mictrosoft. You can possibly buy from Microsoft on the Network. Check it out by going to Microsoft.

Also Do I have to reinstall AOL also.

Don's Reply: If you reformat to remove Win Me, YES, you will have to reinstall AOL. Be sure you have the CD-ROM for this or copy AOL from your Computer before you Format the Harddisk.

I know there are a lot of questions here , Sorry about that ...Please can someone give me input on this.
