Why would a Sony laptop have this problem? (it is hooked up to a printer, btw)

When you log on (if it even lets you) it comes up with USB Error, click here for more information, but when you click on it, nothing happens. Then, while you are in the middle of something, the computer is just freezing.

What is a USB and why would it be causing problems on the laptop? I thought it was just a cord??

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. It is a system that allows you to connect devices (like a mouse, keyboard, printer, camera, etc.) to your computer.

Is the printer you mentioned connected via a USB cable?
If so, it is possible there is a problem with it. Try unplugging and then replugging in the device. It is not necessary to shut off your computer to do this.

hi puppyblues! i haven't much expercience with sony laptops, but maby i can help. i aggree fully w/ Dwight about the unplug and replug thing. it has happened to me once or twice. but it may be that your laptop is to slow. what pentieum prosser does your laptop have? let me know.

Yes, that's what it is, Tree. It's my dads. His wife is having problems and that's what keeps coming up.
