Go into your Start Button / control Panel / Sounds & Audio Devices (this assumes the Control Panel is set to Classic mode). Open the Sounds & Audio, then put a check in the box whre it says "Place volume iocn in the Taskbar". If is is already checked, uncheck it, close and OK the Sounds and Audio Devices Property Window, then reopen it and recheck the volume control icon. I hope this helps.
