I am back again after getting out of one problem another pops up. Can you pls tell me how to get rid of this messenger in my task bar. Every once in a while it pops up and the only way I can get rid of it is to reboot. Is there an easier way i want nothing to do with MSN Messenger.
Thank you in advance for your advice. ************************************************************* 08-10-04, 10:49 AM Rarius Unfortunately, MSN Messenger loads up every time you use Outlook Express. At the moment the only way to avoid its use is to use another email program. Microsoft are putting out their new SP 2 soon, which is supposed to turn this feature off. Until then, I would suggest that you either use another email program (Netscape have a very good one that is not susceptible to as many virus attacks as Outlook express) or put up with messenger until Microsoft release their service pack. ************************************************************* 08-10-04, 12:27 PM Dixie Rightclick on the little messenger man and Open MSN Messenger. Go to Tools and Options, go up to "General" and make sure that "automatically run when I log on to Windows" is unchecked. ************************************************************* 08-10-04, 01:40 PM Rarius You are correct in what you say, Dixie, however, this will not cure the problem of MSN Messenger starting up when you run Outlook Express and you cant uninstall the program without uninstalling outlook express! ************************************************************* 08-10-04, 09:22 PM ivnj This works for me. Right click the icon on the taskbar and say exit. The click Start and Run and typei n this
Well, I tried that and it doesnt work for me, sorry ivnj. All I get is the following message when I try it on my computer.
Error in advpack.dll Missing entry:LaunchINFSection
I stand by what I said... messenger is notoriously difficult to get rid of, unless you are an expert and can edit registry settings and know what you are doing when it comes to using programs such as RunDLL32. There is no easy way. ************************************************************* 08-11-04, 08:10 AM luckyladee If you notice I said every once in a while it pops up, it is not all the time even when I have OE opened. When I see it again I will try all your suggestions one after the other until it works. Right now the MSN is not in my task bar. So I will have to wait. Thank you for all your help will keep you posted. LL ************************************************************** 08-11-04, 01:40 PM ivnj Sorry Rar,

Thanks again. ************************************************************* 08-12-04, 11:49 PM ivnj There is also 2 alternative methods on the same link I've never heard of before.
But if the link works U'll see a warning saying you must exit first... And then a green bar in a little popup window.
