A new reason to volunteer ?

Is this a partial answer to our illegal immigrant problem? Or just another dumb idea for solving the shortage of recruits?

Great fun! After all, the Americans have got some of the Iraqi army fighting on their side, so having foreigners obviously works Big Grin

People supposedly joined the French Foreign Legion to forget. What would they join the American version for?

"The armed forces, already struggling to meet recruiting goals, are considering expanding the number of noncitizens in the ranks - including disputed proposals to open recruiting stations overseas and putting more immigrants on a faster track to US citizenship if they volunteer....."

I don't know that this will work. It's much harder to find Hessians than it used to be.

Well, something like that worked for the Romans. They recruited from people whose countries they had overrun. They were careful not to station them in their native lands, of course. The return was that a man who served out his full term would become a Roman citizen. So we may look forward to a lot of Iraqis in the US army, given the requisite number of years. They'll be serving in North Korea, after the invasion to install democracy in that country, or Afghanistan, or some such place far from Iraq Big Grin

But if they become citiens, they shouldn't take any oaths while swearing on the Koran. Roll Eyes
