'...In 2004, 60% of active-duty military personnel who responded to a survey sent to Military Times subscribers identified themselves as Republicans. By 2007, that had dropped below 50%. (Military personnel tend to take screw-ups in Iraq pretty personally.)
If political contributions are any guide, 2008 has the potential to be a good year for the Democratic Party with military voters; data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics found that the two candidates pulling in the most money from military donors in January and February were Ron Paul, the libertarian GOP candidate who favored withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, and Obama, who garnered nearly 30% more in military donations than presumptive GOP nominee John McCain...'www.latimes.com
The actual number of donations and their amounts can never be known with certainty, and considering the way some interest groups launder their money through willing people (who otherwise wouldn't donate), you can never know how much of this money is attributable to a single source.
In my experience, liberals almost never put on a uniform. In my years of service, I met 1 (one) liberal active duty and 1 (one) liberal defense contractor. Everyone else down to the man was a RABID conservative.
The reason for this is simple:
Liberals come across as being traitors in the United States, always willing to undermine the War on Terror while we're in harm's way without a thought for the consequences. From our point of view, liberals in the US are the #1 cause of emboldening terrorists against the US. (The only effective weapon they have in this war is propaganda, and liberals are always willing to help in this area whether they realize it or not.)
This kind of devisiveness has the tendency to drive liberals away from service and to drive service members away from liberalism.
