Something in another thread made me wonder about members of Congress with children in the military. I know that Biden and Webb in the Senate have sons in the military; Biden's son is scheduled to go to Iraq soon, and Webb's recently left Iraq. McCain's 3 sons served or are serving in the Navy and Marines. I am also aware that another Republican (Biden and Webb are both Democrats.) Congressmen has a son in Iraq, but I don't recall his name. Is anyone aware of any other Congressmen with children in the military? Are there any others with children that are going to war zones? Are there any females among the children?

This article begins with a discussion of national candidates (Palin, Biden, McCain) with children in service, and continues with a list of other national politicians who have served with the U.s. military in Iraq or Afghanistan. That list (with the one young lady highlighted):

•Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo. - Sam Bond, Marine Corps, Iraq.

•Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D. - Brooks Johnson, Army, Iraq and Afghanistan.

•Sen. James Webb, D-Va. - Jimmy Webb, Marine Corps, Iraq.

•Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo. - Perry Akin, Marine Corps, Iraq.

•Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo. - Stepdaughter Jessica Gladney, Army, Iraq; Stepson Sam Gladney, Army, Iraq.

•Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Ca. - Duncan D. Hunter, Marine Corps, Iraq.

•Rep. John Kline, R-Minn. - Dan Kline, Army, Iraq and Afghanistan.

•Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo. - Two sons in military. Citing privacy concerns, Skelton's office does not disclose names or assignments.

•Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C. Addison Wilson, Navy, Iraq; Alan Wilson, Army, Iraq.

Thanks, Fuse. It's good to see that list, although it seems to be quite short. It's also nice to see that, apparently, no one got cushy assignments because of Daddy or Mommy's position.

This list was represented as those with children serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. I do not know who may have kids assigned to push paper at the Pentagon.

The representation seems to be reasonable versus our national population - maybe a bit higher, depending on how you fumble with the math!
