Well, it's the new millenium. Are the sexes equal enough to be equally drafted in a time of war?

How many of you women have registered for the draft?

Hmmm....

A noticeable silence.....
Next time I hear a woman complain about equality and fairness, I guess I have the right tool for the right job of shutting her trap.
Any woman who complains about equality and hasn't registered for the draft, fighting for her right and equal responsibility to be drafted is a hypocrite.

the only reason that i was silent, is because i hadn't read your post, equality does not start and stop at serving our country. there are a lot of things that men won't stand up and be equal to women. there are a lot of women already serving our country, that would engage in combat if they are ordered to. so to answer your question, yes, the sexes are equal. a lot of women work 8 hour shifts every day just like her spouse, but the man think she should do all the laundry, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and take of the kids. do you think that the sexes should be equal to do all that? so before you decide who is the hypocrite, make sure you are certain which sex it is. maybe someone else trap should be shut. i really enjoy reading your questions and answers, keep up the good work. i like answering them too. The only reason why you don't see women signing up for the draft is because we aren't eligible to. If there was an option involved I'm sure you would have seem some names posted here but since you have asked an irrelevant question you recieved no answer. The day that men can manage to do their jobs without being distracted by big boobs and a pretty face is the day women will finally obtain full equality in the armed forces. Women aren't allowed to go into fields of combat, not because we can't perform or out perform men, but because men stupidly risk their own well being and that of their fellow soldiers to protect the women. Men have just proven over time that they can't split the blood supply between their two brains and still be effective in combat, so we women must suffer the consequences of their failures once again.

Equality and equal rights are two, completely different things here. I am a firm believer that all humans should have the same, or equal, rights, even to serve the country. But to say that men and women are ‘equals’ to each other, well that’s just silly. There are things that women excel in more than men, and there are things that men excel in more than women. That’s where Mr.(sexist to the core)Sensitive is confused.

The males of most species on earth are typically the stronger sex, and therefore better suited to protect the herd from physical threats. Now if our country was threatened by another, who said they had an ultimate doomsday device that they will detonate unless we can answer correctly several trivia questions pertaining to shows aired on the Lifetime channel, well I would think we would draft mainly women into our army.

It’s all relative.

It was the Vietnamese women who were winning the war in Vietnam.... There is a female run spiritual organisation in this world winning the war on peace...

We are not our gender... we are souls and we live in bodies for a short time to experience life.

woman do fight in the army now. In israel all woman are drafted at the age of 18 and need to remain in the army for two years. In most places in israel the woman fight the same as the men. Now that is equality, isn't it?

Women are not equal to men only in those areas where they are clearly their superiors. wink

90% of all females would not be suitable for combat. I have seen the reports of training of
females in the armed forces and the academys.
The Army research Inst of enviromental medicine found in a study that the physical strength of women required by more than half of all MOS placed them beyond the capabilities of 92%of women. This means that women must be assigned to non physically demanding jobs.
Training requirements have been lowered for women in all branches of the service.

If we did not have to be so politically correct now, everyone would know the truth.

Sometimes I think we need to take the concept of equality and put it to the side and use a little common sense. When women are considered for certain jobs, perhaps it is not equality that should be considered but rather, suitability. Whether we like it or not, men and women are different. And when it comes to the military, that is especially important to consider.

There are many jobs in the military that women are well suited. Many cases better than men. Then there are other segments that men are better suited. Many situations due to the physical demands involved.

I wonder if we have any AnswerPool ladies who have served in the military? I'm sure we do. I am curious as to what their take is on this?

Men are required to register for the draft. Women aren't. Fair? Probably not. I don't believe women technically can register, though. It's not an option. Service is, though. I don't think military service should be entirely mandatory, but in times of great need if men are drafted to serve against their will, women should be, too.
What Scotty says is true, some women simply should not serve because they are not physically capable. They do not have the strength necessary for the work. I know that I don’t, right now. If I were drafted, however, I’m certain I could build up the strength and endurance. Not all women can, though. But, to be fair, there are some real sissy men out there who wouldn’t hack it in the service, either.

That is very true Elexina. I totally agree.

The concept of equality has been totally lost. Men and women are different. We think differently. Personalities are different btw. people, I know, but generally men and women don't think alike.
Men have better physical strength. More women tend to have minds with several tracks. But none of this means anybody is better than anyone else. Why be mad b/c of differences? We were all born with a human nature - sinners in need of a Redeemer. He came, lived, died, and lives again!

By the way, in response to the draft thing, somebody needs to stay at home! Smile

CoolI've just got to say that the whole notion of a draft in this modern society as a means of national defense is an outdated one at best. It takes a long time to train up a modern military member on all the equipment, techniques and procedures that they need to survive and win in combat. The simple days of handing someone a rifle and teaching them how to shoot and throwing them into battle of WWII to Vietnam are long since gone. Besides, we have an all volunteer military now that have their own motivations and desires to do what they do without having some whiner around who doesn't know why they are there and only want out. Really doesn't make for good team dynamics to say the least. As far as the sexes in combat, I have known some women who could hack it and some men who couldn't. Each of us has our own talents. But I will say that as a logistics and training issue it is much simpler, morale intensive and cost effective to train only men for the combat role. The devil is always in the details and those small details of training for comabt and the differences involved between the two do not equal a more effective fighting force. Women are excellent in the Intelligence, Operations and Combat Support roles and they should be encouraged to continue those. Sure some can survive combat, but it shouldn't be an all or nothing policy.
