The student Senate of the University of Washington has rejected a resolution to honor one of its alumni, Gregory "Pappy" Boyington.

Boyington, perhaps America's most celebrated ace, led the famed Black Sheep Squadron. He was a POW and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Minutes of student Senate meeting of February 7, 2006.

And which Senator thought Boyington, part Sioux indian, was a rich white man?

Roll Eyes

One of the most colorful successful commanders in WWII and they think he is a rich white man who killed alot.

These students obviously are not learning about what REALLY matters!

They spent more time thanking the committee for making the Lobby Event sucessful!

It's cases like this that make me want to disavow some things that occur on the WRONG side of the state of Washington. What a joke!

Did anyone notice the announcements at the meeting's end?

Selma Sillsi said APS is having its annual Human Rights Film Fest on February 15th - 19th.

...

It was noted that tickets for the Vagina Monologues are currently available in the HUB ticket office.

John Lee said Innocence Project Northwest is having a screening at the Burke Museum regarding the death penalty.

Karl Smith noted the ACLU is having a meeting in Kane Hall this Saturday."

According to our local birdcage liner, 18 co-sponsors submitted a resolution demanding that Jill Edwards, the senator who said that Pappy Boyington and other Marines weren't the type of people the university wanted to honor, apologize in writing to all Marines associated with UW, and the apology be printed in the student newspaper and broadcast over the student radio. In addition, the resolution demanded she read Col. Boyington's book "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep". Failure to do these things would result in the loss of her Senate seat.

I hope that resolution passes!!!!!!!!!
