Just today I heard about www.heromiles.org and thought it was an excellent idea to help those serving in the armed forces.

If you have unused frequent flyer miles and would like to donate them to a member of the U.S. military or if you know of a friend or family member in the military and they are hoping to travel to see loved ones, www.heromiles.org is the place to go.

That is a good idea. I saw a story on the world news the other night about a guy who didn't have enough money for his pricey plane ticket home. He had to borrow money just to get home to see his family.

I have always felt that the airlines themselves should give free airfare to those soldiers on leave, or coming home to stay. They should open up their wallets and say 'These soldiers have done so much for our Country and put their lives on the line. Let's do something to say "Thank You" by paying their way home, so they can see their loved ones.'

I think the soldiers deserve it.

That is a good idea esencia, but with the way things are right now... can the airline industry really afford it?

Well, you've got a point there. But they could at least give them a heavy discount.

Thanks for the link and the story, Koz. I have never (and will never fly) but I have family all over that flies all the time and I'm sure they would be glad to do something like this. We all want to help, but never really know what we can do. This is an excellent idea and a good way to help our troops.

THANK YOU! Smile

I had heard about that, it is excellent. You usually don't know if you've got leave guaranteed until like a few days before, and it can mean thousands of difference in ticket price.

However, I guess I'd rather pay it than have my husband go to Iraq Frown
