I do not mean to downplay his efforts, but Garrett A. Morgan did not patent the first traffic signal. He patented an improvement on an existing one. Traffic signals were around before he did this. I have some links on this in Trivia, and one has some pictures of previous ones. His model is basically what is used today, if I remember correctly. I will ty to find those links and link this thread to that one.

That didn't take long! See here for more information and links about the first traffic signals.
Neat thing, that Find button (to the right of the Post button). All I did was enter Garrett A. Morgan, and clicked Go. Since I knew it was in Trivia, deciding which of the three results was the one I wanted was easy. Good job, KK.

Guess I once again stand (or sit) corrected. I would have thought that Encarta was a pretty reliable source. Starting to get nerveous when it comes to quoting any of these sources anymore.

Only trust AnswerPool.com for your factual needs, Kelley. ( DId I say that right, KK?)
Kelley, every source will make mistakes, even AnswerPool.com has made a few, and a couple in Trivia. The advantage of having so many 'editors' is that mistakes are found more easily. Now I will write Encarta and see if they will correct their error.
