We have had some excellent responses for favourite movies; what about the worst? Actually, when I can get my two sons, 31 & 27 (funny names for sons) to watch a bad movie with me, it can end up as the funniest night of the year as we fall about together, preferably over a good beer or two. Anyone seen "The attack of the 50-foot Woman", or "Fire Maidens from Outer Space"? Please recommend one-star films for us to hoot at.

PLan 9 from Outerspace
Glen or Glenda
The Day The Earth Stood Still
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
Forbidden Planet
Destination Moon
When Worlds Collide
This Island Earth
Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers
The Thing
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

All the movies by Ed Wood.....
I can't help being hopelessly facinated by bad scripts, bad acting, bad sets, bad lighting, bad direction and bad dialog.

I love all the old Sci-fi and Horror 1960's movies.

I agree with JohnGalt on one of the worst movies EVER made being John Revolting's Battlefield Earth. I also agree that the Blair Witch was good.
The worst movie I ever saw that actually equated to so bad it's funny is "The People Under the Stairs." Ugh, bad. :-(

"Q" (possibly short for Quetzalcoatl) is about a flying dragon thing that bites people's heads off. It's from the early 80's. (Nineteen eighties)

What's interesting about "Q" is that it builds it nest in the Chrysler Building in Midtown NYC, and no one ever seems to notice.

"Interview with a Vampire" was the worst I have seen in a theatre.

I have seen the old monster movies on TV every Saturday afternoon when I was a kid, and they certainly were no masterpieces either. roll eyes

One of the worst recent movies I have seen is "In the Bedroom". The media hyped it up to be such a good movie....maybe I was expecting too much. The acting may have been great, but everything else sucked.

My friend FORCED me to watch this...it is one of the worst movies i have ever seen. The plot is kinda hard to follow, and there barely is one, but the main thing i remember is it involved a fist-sized diamond and feeding people to pigs to get rid of evidence...

lots of cursing and gypsies and the mob..

just the whole thing was so stupid and (in a strange way) funny...I'd get it again- its a horrible movie, but its great one to laugh at..

Also i agree with anyone who said Battlefield Earth was the most awful movie ever made. No one could PAY me to see it again.

I can't stand any movie about a super hero. Superman, Spider, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In my opinion they are some of the cheesiest story lines and I can't understand why they are always blockbuster hits.

Did anyone else waste their money on this movie? I don't know how I survived that night!!
Another awful movie in my opinion is the English Patient but I know a lot of people who loved that movie so I'm probably alone on that one.

JohnGalt! Must confess I also loved "Blair Witch".
Babthrower! Absolutely agree; also, have you ever seen someone speaking on the phone to someone who slams the phone down on them, only for the person left holding the dead phone to slowly stare at it in utter disbelief, turning it over as if it is something very nasty that the cat has just brought in... and while we're on; why is there NEVER any liquid in the mugs of tea & coffee which people drink from in films? They take sips from cups, then forget to swallow it. It can be done in bar room scenes (it HAS to be done; you can see THROUGH a glass!) wink

'The Stuff' made in 1985. Weird yummy goo erupts from the earth and is discovered by a couple of miners. They taste it and decide to market it because it tastes so good. The American public literally eats up the new dessert known as "The Stuff" but unfortunately it takes over the brains of those who eat it turning them into zombie like creatures. It is up to ex-FBI agent David and a kid named Jason to stop the spread of the mind altering dessert.

Worst Movies.
Directed by Brian DePalma. Starring Gary Sinise, Tim Robbins and Don Cheadle. Sound like the makings of a masterpiece, but instead it's Mission to Mars.

I have never had the unpleasure of seeing Yentl.

Fortunately, Mrs. Coldfuse and I won tickets to see another movie when we wasted our time with The Blair Witch Project.

Desperately Seeking Susan reeks, but the king of corny, is the all-midget western The Terror of Tiny Town, it is so horrible and misguided that it will make you pull ribs. Tom Selleck was in an
old piece of schlock Daughters of Satan which is very lame. Though I love the band, KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park is a rather abyssmal flick. Of course Bedtime for Bonzo is a must see.

Two words: Battlefield Earth.

The old 50's movies are fun to watch for the cheese and campy factorss, ala MST3K. But Battlefield Earth was just downright painful to watch!

Didn't get time to edit my last posting; but if I were the "cute & perky heroine" mentioned by Babthrower (wrong sex anyhow, but motivation and reaction identical, I can assure you) I would be moving rather rapidly in the general direction of "away", and not returning until I had gathered reinforcements. (Sadly, women don't stalk ME too often; but would those who wish to, please form an orderly queue...) cool cool cool

Movies I hated:

Mission to Mars
The House on Haunted Hill (90s remake)

Movies that are so bad they're good:

Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
Plan 9 from Outer Space

Geeze, I can't think of any more.

Ok, usually Im a big fan of 50's movies where tough guys wit lots of hair grease get into rumbles w/ Matt Dillon, but as much as I love MattDillon with hair grease, I was sitting there cracking up very hard in the theatre watching Deuces Wild. I mean this movie wasent that horrible, but some of the stuff that happened
that was supposed to be emotional were so ridiculous and has such bad acting its unbearable. It rovided me with many laughs that were unintentional and meant to do the oppisite. Example: girl jumping up and down on the top of her apt yelling to a bunch og piggeons "I gotta get the hell out of Brooklyn!", or the crazy welfare mom hinking everydays Christmas and singing carols all tyear round. This movie was halarious, people were yelling at me to me quiet at the theatre cuz I was laughing so hard. I highly recommend it, if you dont see it, youll be missing out on some great laughs.

There are a few that come to mind which I know are available on Amazon.com, but I don't know what your chances are that they'll be available for rental....

Plan 9 from Outer Space (1956)
Montster from Green Hell (1958)
Catwomen of the Moon (1953)
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

The 1970's was great for bad sci-fi & fantasy movies. Darned if I can remember the name, but we saw a movie where the "conan-like" hero battled a giant snake - the snake seriously looked like a roll of carpeting! I don't think this was even a "B" movie but we were ROTFLOAO.

Good Luck!

I've seen "Q"; it's hilarious. Thanks Anguilla & Juanruiz for the reminder.
-Anyone ever see some strange black & white film (possibly from Czechoslovakia) involving submarines and people riding bikes under the sea... sorry, can't be more specific than this (got drunk and laughed too much) but it may jog someone's memory. Thanks again to all of you; I'm loving your suggestions!

"Battlefield Earth," "Wing Commander," pretty much anything they ever showed on "MST3K" including "Mitchell." "Braveheart" and "Braveheart 2" -oh, I mean "The Patriot"!- were awful, indeed. "The Thomas Crowne Affair" was dreadful. I know there are more but I pretty much try to stay away from ones I know will be bad.

"Dude Where's My Car" is one that was totally pointless and had 2nd grade humor. I know there are more but it's early.. and I'm just not thinking right..

Oh yeah! Plan 9 from Outer Space is just TERRIBLE.
And i've loved just about every movie I ever saw, but i have to say...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show...

I HATED that sooooooo much!!!

I am afraid for me the worst movie I have ever endured is:

'DOGMA'

I say this because of the constant foul language.

I am not a prude but the amount of swearing to me was totally unecessary and detracted from what could have been an excellent film.

I watched it through to the end because I felt sure that the bad language being used would not carry on throughout the movie. I was wrong.

Afterthought, has anyone counted the number of expletives used in this film? My guess is well in excess of 100.

A Woody Allen flick called 'Don't Drink the Water.' It was the worst. I rented it because of W.A. and he starred in it and it was so nerve-shatteringly, embarrassingly unfunny that I wanted to switch it off but I seemed frozen with horror...
It had Judith Kavner in it, I usually like her comedy, but she played straight man to woody and since he wasn't funny her straight man role kind of disappeared into mush.
No, the real reason I watched it straight through was I didn't think he would put out, under his real name, something that awful. Maybe his settlement payments are getting to him, and he needs the bucks. Or maybe he's just getting old.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder---------I know a lot of people will disagree with me on these
choices cuz they made lots of money
but here's some movies that I would
add: Titanic----mindless dialouge,
Pulp Fiction----mindless dialouge,
Dusk to Dawn----why George why, and
the ever popular Blair Witch Project--- a true ripoff. One more---
Monster's Ball---totally unbelievable.

All of the Austin Powers movies!
Sorry, people but sickness and perversion just aren't my idea of comedy. It is just dumb! I've never even been able to sit through either the first or second one and consequently had no desire to see the third.

Worst Movies.
Kellygirl ~ great choice "Titanic" to which I would add "Pearl Harbor" for being a near cousin.
I believe the worst movies are those that had potential. A "Plan 9 from Outer Space" is horrid, but it was incapable of being anything else. Both Titanic and Pearl Harbor could have been lasting classics and if it turns out they are, then it is true the 'story' is a dead art.

JohnGalt and CL -
I liked "The Blair Witch Project" too!
(Could've done w/o so much cussing, but an eerie concept done well, especially when watched in a dark room on Hallowe'en...)

One of the worst movies I've ever seen was "Freddie Got Fingered"!
I just didn't get the vulgar humor - to me it was repulsive!
If it hadn't been a freebie, I would have asked for my $$ back!

A couple of other movies I disliked because of blatant sex scenes I was totally unprepared for (Understand - to me, sex is not a spectator sport! wink ):

"Risky Business" (Which actually had something of a plot in spite of the scenes...)

"Single White Female" (Which might have actually had a plot if they'd taken the time to write one!)
