Happy, Sad, encouraging, discouraging - - it's everything all in one!!! No matter how many times I've seen it, it still makes me teary!!! ************************************************************** 10-18-02, 12:55 PM Prothero Bernard and the Genie tops the list.
"Comfort and Joy" and "The Bishop's Wife" came in close behind. ************************************************************** 10-19-02, 07:11 AM Texan-In-Exile The one with Bill Murray - Because it is cynically humorous - just like me!
But "A Christmas Story" is a very close second, and a tradition with me! ************************************************************** 10-19-02, 01:03 PM cattywampus I can't think of the name right now, but it's the one where a man (Steve Martin?) is trying to get home for Christmas, but runs afoul of a short fat guy...what is it?
Catty (whose memory is about as long as an egg's whiskers) big grin ************************************************************** 10-19-02, 04:20 PM JerseyTomater Catty, Is the movie "Trapped in Paradise" ?
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0111477 ************************************************************** 10-19-02, 06:21 PM trueview Planes, trains and automobiles? ************************************************************** 10-19-02, 06:48 PM samantha One of my favorite I watch every year is Chevy Chase christmas vacation. I have to laugh at this show every time I watch it. big grin big grin ************************************************************** 10-20-02, 08:04 AM Jelp01 I like Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation too. But my all-time favorite, and the only Christmas program of any kind that I own a video of, is the story of Scrooge....the cartoon version with Mr. Magoo. ************************************************************** 10-20-02, 05:28 PM hesacat I also love "White Christmas" (and "Holiday Inn"). Bing is my all-time favourite.
Snow, snow, snow, snow, SNOW!!!! ************************************************************** 10-20-02, 08:04 PM twinhearts I love A Christmas Story. We have it on tape and watch it every year. I also like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. smile ************************************************************** 10-20-02, 11:20 PM esencia my absolute favorite is White Christmas. I have watched it every year for like the last 15 years!! (Well, except for last year when I couldn't find my video and nobody seemed to be showing it on TV. frown ) But, I found my video recently so I can watch it this year. I will have to watch it twice to make up for last year! big grin
a close second is Christmas Vacation.
I haven't watched It's a Wonderful Life in a few years. I used to watch that every year too.
I think Miracle on 34th Street is slightly overrated. Especially after was it AMC(American Movie Classics) or TCM (Turner Classic Movies) was showing the 24 hours of Miracle on 34th Street Thanksgiving day. roll eyes
PS: Catty- trueview might be right. Planes Trains & Automobiles stars Steve Martin and the late John Candy(RIP) Steve is trying to get home to his family for Thanksgiving and keeps running into Mr. Candy and they keep having all these unfortunte mishaps.
Trapped in Paradise stars Nicholas Cage, Dana Carvey & Jon Lovitz and they get all mixed up in the bank robbery around Christmas time I believe. ************************************************************** 10-24-02, 07:26 AM VelvetVoice I saw this movie in the fifth grade at the theater, have loved it ever since. I can recite this movie from memory. Georgia, bought this movie on VHS last year for $10, it is worth it, although it is not yet on DVD. They don't show many of the classics on TV any more. My next purchase will be White Christmas on DVD.
I have It's a Wonderful Life memorized also, but still will watch it whenever it is on. I cry every time without fail. Also, Holiday Inn is one of my all-time favorite movies. Especially the song "Be Careful, It's My Heart". Imagine inspiring someone to write a song like that for you. And imagine giving up fame and riches and success for that kind of love. Wowee!
I love all the classics, and am looking for more obscure titles. I thought Bernard and the Genie was an interesting pick. Will need to check it out. ************************************************************** 11-01-02, 06:26 AM Fritzzs Gotta go with "der Bingle" in "White Christmas" ************************************************************** 11-02-02, 08:23 AM dogspit For years it was definitely "It's A Wonderful Life", but I have not watched for a while. The one I really love now is Scrooged with Bill Murray. ************************************************************** 11-04-03, 04:43 PM shelster Its a Wonderful Life...watch it every year, while wrapping the kids presents on Christmas eve. Makes me cry every year. ************************************************************** 08-12-04, 11:59 AM PerfectPeach I love A Christmas Story! 08-17-04, 12:59 AM decal Bad Santa Big Grin ************************************************************** 11-25-06, 05:48 AM roogalator I couldn't vote. There are 3 that are must see! In no particular order:
It's a Wonderful Life A Christmas Story A Christmas Carol - (1951 version, Alistair Sim)
I did tape them, that took all the fun out of it, so taped over and look forward every year to seeking them out.
