Just wanted to update your information regarding this question. Dr. Richard A. Rydze is the only other person, but the only physician that has both an Olympic medal and a Super Bowl championship. He won the silver medal in Men's Platform Diving at the 1972 Munich Olympics and was the team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers when they won the Super Bowl in 2005.

Thanks, Sharon. While I could find no confirmation online that he was awarded a Super Bowl Ring, it wouldn't surprise me that he was. I'm not sure of the wording of the original question (and I think it was one of mine), but I'm confident that it didn't exclude a situation such as this, even though that was not the intent of the questioner. Were this to come up in a Trivia contest which I was judging, and based on what little I have found out in 10 minutes online, I'd include Rydze as one of the two answers.

I will add this thread to the original post at some point in he future. Thanks for the information and welcome to AnswerPool.

I can't find the original question. I do understand that Sharon's info is about "the only Physician to ...". But just in case this question was to be asked again formulated in a different way, I found THIS which probably was the answer given at the time.

[Called the "World's Fastest Human," Bob Hayes earned a pair of Olympic gold medals at the 1964 Tokyo Games. In addition to winning the 100 meters with a world-record-tying time, Hayes ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay, turning a three-meter deficit into a three-meter victory and new world record. As a member of the 1972 Super Bowl-winning Dallas Cowboys, Hayes became the only athlete to win both an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring.]

No, I'm fairly sure that the question said "the only athlete to have won" both. An argument could be made that he the doctor didn't win the Super Bowl ring, but then, does a kicker who doesn't kick win one? What about a guy who doesn't play?

But the doctor, by virtue of his diving, was certainly an athlete.
