In what Olympic competition were eight competitors kicked out of the 2012 London Olympics for intentionally trying to lose ?

Well, the Olympic Games were meant to be for amateurs and this was certainly amateur. It was the most incompetent effort to fix a result that you could ever see. It was in badminton. Chinese and Korean doubles players saw that winning their matches would mean that they were to play favourite pairs in the next round. So they set out to lose, to get weaker opponents. This they achieved by serving into the net repeatedly and striking the shuttlecock out of court at every opportunity. The crowd soon saw what was happening and booed throughout.

Spot on. It seems to me the rule has always been not to be overly obvious about it... but those teams certainly were (I guess if both teams are trying it makes it harder to do so with subtlety !)

Thanks for the answer.

Felt sorry for the crowd. They'll have paid about £95, $145, for a seat in a round like that. They were as cheated as anybody!

At least when soccer players fix matches (it's an Italian speciality), they are a bit clever about it, deliberately fouling opponents in the penalty area to ensure the other team scores (the goalkeeper invariably just failing to stop the penalty kick, of course) and so on (bribing referees is not unknown there, but in-play methods are better).
