Exactly, Jelp! He was about 38 when he fought Marciano, and gave him a great fight. (Now to anger the boxing fans!) Just think if he had fought Marciano when he was 30, before his skills has eroded ! Marciano's toughtest fights were against Walcott, Ezzard Charles, and Archie Moore. Walcott was in his late 30s, Charles had 95 fights before Marciano fought him, and had beeb fighting 14 years, and Moore was 43, according to his mother. Had the Charles-Marciano fight been held under rules adapted in about 1960, he would have lost. Charles split Marciano's nose, giving him about a 1 " cut through the nose. Any modern day ref would have stopped the fight.
