Rebecca Romero didn't take up cycling in competition until two years ago. She did the right thing. The 'quad' rowing team she left were favourites this year but we're caught by the Chinese four 'on the line' and were in tears of frustration afterwards.

We're now wondering what she'll do for 2012, as she's bound to be bored with cycling now

The surprise star for the British media, principally because she is so 'British' in their eyes;natural, modest and unassuming, playing down a win as though it's nothing to fuss about, the innocent amateur who just happened to think she might have a go on her day off from work etc etc ; is another Rebecca, double gold medallist and world record holder,the 19 year-old swimmer Rebecca Adlington.
