Who was the professional football player that left at the height of his football career to pursue a career as a doctor ? +++++++++++ 08-25-02, 07:17 PM BobLaz Jersey--
Im not sure if this is the one you're looking for, but there used to be a player named Rich Diana from CT--who played for the Dolphins--who went on to become a doctor here..I played against him in high school..

Diana actually became a physician, but he may have retired at 28 bcause he had recently undergone surgery on his knee for the third time.
Smith did not become a doctor, and may not have even attended medical school. He said that he considered joining his former coach Dennis Green as part of his coaching staff after he retired. As of 2004, he owned a software company.
I really don't know if either of these is the answer Jersey wanted.
