The longest fifth set ever played in a tennis grand slam final took place yesterday at Wimbledon. But who held the previous record that Federer and Roddick eclipsed, and where was it played?

Hi, Colin, here's what I found :
Longest match: 77 games across five sets. Previous record was 62 games in last year's Wimbledon final between Federer and Rafael Nadal

Yes, that was the second longest match, but I want to know about the second longest fifth set in a Grand Slam final.

I am assuming that would be the 1927 French Open where Bill Tilden and Rene Lacoste went 20 games (Lacoste winning 11-9)

I believe Roddick was wearing the Lacoste gear in the match to boot.

Not 'to boot'. Roddick was booted by Reebok.
