I'm trying to figure out how one can find out if Social Security fraud is being commited. Long story short...my family and I believe that my step-father has died. He was very close to a family friend and to his sister-in-law and neither have heard from him for months. Prior to that, the emails (never a phone call) received did not seem like they were written from him. He usually wrote in one long sentence, all lower case, no punctuation, etc. The recent emails were broken up in paragraph, using proper capital letters, commas, etc.
The last we heard was that he had been very ill with stomach cancer and my mother has been getting tons of phone calls from his debtors looking for past due payments on credit cards even though he hasn't lived there.
We believe there's this woman that he hooked up with who was/is taking advantage and sucking him dry (he wasn't someone who had a lot of money, but he had some).
We've searched obituaries, we're not sure of his last address, because the HOA of the development he has a mobile home in came to my mothers home looking for him because he hadn't paid his HOA fees and his property wasn't being kept up.
It's a long story, but that's kind of the bulk of it.
So, how do we find out if something has happened to him, for all we know he passed away, didn't tell his family and she's living off of his social security.
Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts

It's possible that he can no longer type, so someone is doing that for him.
Florida probably has some governmental agency that looks into situations like this. (See if there is a visiting nurses organization in the area.) Another thing to try is calling all the hospitals in the area.
Good luck, and please let us know the outcome. Someone else in a similar situation may read this and knowing what you did may help that person.
