I know security wise It's near impossible to get money out of my bank account without Authorisation I'm happy with that

On the Other Hand If somebody wanted to Pay money or a check to me and all they had was the Sort Code of the Branch (of the Bank) and my name can the Bank accept the Payment without no A/C number?
The UK Banking system has a Sort code(all number) which reads as example: 12-34-56 (Uk version)

The banks themselves can find the account number.They've done it for me.The only problem is obvious viz.for example, branch 40-39-22 has two or more accounts with the same name.If the person paying in can satisfy the bank e.g. which 'Mr J Smith' at HSBC* ,Melbourn Street, Royston, Hertfordshire, it is, everything's fine and the bank will do the rest.

* HSBC = Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. They're big in rural Hertfordshire. (Big everywhere: they're one of our biggest 'high street' banks)
