What a botch-up, for want of a better term (!) Both parties are as bad as each other, but because I tend to view all financial lending institutions with an extremely jaundiced eye (perhaps unfairly [!])would just about come down on the side of the couple involved.

Allowing the interest to compound to these laughable proportions reflects marginally more badly on the institution, who purport to understand the business than on the couple on whom no such comprehension in depth can be demanded. However, they need to have their knuckles severely rapped for being so laisser faire about the whole matter...my sympathies are with the judge who will have to sort out the whole mess.

It does seem that there has been some cynical level of calulated gamble taken by this couple that suggests an oblique scam of sorts, but if so it has badly misfired. Keep us posted, Bedstor...I am intrigued to discover the outcome of this one. Liverpool/Southport...hmm... citizens not normally noted as gullible, ingenuous victims... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes...witness Boris Johnson's take on the area for an interesting angle... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Thanks Ritz
Beat us to it Razz
I'd have thought a fair total would be 33% on top of the original loan but why did it take off into orbit? Confused
I see they were awarded costs (which gives them some "pocket money" Roll Eyes)
Also that the company that was chasing the claim
has lost their licence to lend money (Good!)

Yes, Bedstor, I think I agree with you 100%. I am pleased that the firm has lost its licence (I think that if this could apply to the big banks also that it would be no bad thing! However it seems that the Meadows were a bad risk to begin with, and not only have they won their case but have been compensated into the bargain...one does wonder whether the concept of responsibility for one's own actions is becoming seriously old fashioned...from what I infer from your post, and from the news I have received on this, the judge did not even suggest that we all ought to be more responsible for our own actions.

For a long time now I have felt that that the individual in our culture is becoming ever more conscious of his/her rights and increasingly unaware of attendant duties. If it is the duty of the fairground owner to make sure that the rider is securely strapped in, it is also the duty of the rider to make doubly sure that those straps are truly fastened... Roll Eyes
