Valid or not, one can argue that when the people get peace at last, they get their money's worth. Yet, I think that I was watching a different program a few times, and the investigations done with instrumentation were done for free.

The Roman Catholic church has conducted several in the last decade. The most famous one (in the US) was done not far from where I live, in 1947 (I think) at a hospital in St. Louis (Alexian Brothers?). It was the basis for the film The Exorcist. The character that inspired the young priest, Fr. Damien Karras, just died in the last few years. Of course, there were significant liberties taken in the film (The little girl in Washington, DC, was actually a little boy from Baltimore.), but the basics were the same. In the early 70s, a friend who knew one of the priests involved showed me some copies of some of the records. Regardless of the explanation, it was scary stuff.
The Jews, and (I think) the Lutherans have also done some exorcisms in the 20th Century, but they try to hide that fact. Some of the smaller Religious Right churches also perform exorcisms, mainly to cleanse rebellious teens and young women of the demons who are obviously in possession of their souls and who make them want to dance, smoke cigarettes, and other devilish activities.

I watched a few "UFO Hunters" programs, and they had me sitting at the edge of my seat. There is one fellow there who puts me in stitches, because his eyes always look so sleepy that I can't imagine him getting excited enough to roll them up in his head over UFO's. So I, too, just stare at the shows, myself sleepy eyed. Maybe he's as puzzled as I am.
