Many people claim to know people or heard of people who have seen soldiers (in varying states of injury) on the former battlefield at Gettysburg. Has this been substantiated? confused

Thanks,

Well Dr, I lived in Gettysburg for years, I played on the Battlefield Lands as a child, my parents both worked for various the company that established bus tours of the entire National Grounds. I've never seen any ghosts anywhere. I have hiked in some pretty isolated areas, in Devils Den (where remains are still occasionally recovered) and Big Round Top and in the Seminary where many soldiers died during treatment (my dad went to school for his M.Div). If there are spirits that are restless, it wouldn't surprise me given the type of conflict it was, but I've never met them.

I believe that ghosts are just a myth like santa claus, easter bunny, tooth fairy, etc. Long time ago, before radio and television, this is how people entertained themselves, sitting around telling ghost stories. People would try to see who could tell the best one. When I was a little girl, I used to hear my grandparents telling the stories. I used to be afraid until I was old enough to know that they weren't real. It's the real people that we better fear.

A number of respected authors have published books about substantiated sightings--that is, sightings that were seen by more than one person, or multiple times. One such author is David Pitkin (yes, I know guys--I mention him a lot--he's just really cool Smile ) with the following titles:

Haunted Saratoga County (includes sightings at the Saratoga Battlefield--Revolutionary War)

Ghosts of the NorthEast (I'm in this one Big Grin Twice.)

This should help you get a start on some "real" ghost stories!
