What animals can see behind themselves without turning their heads ? +++++++++++++++ 08-22-02, 07:46 PM Minnesota The pronghorn has a field of vision slightly greater than 180 degrees, which, I believe, would be sufficient to allow them to see behind themselves.
08-23-02, 10:47 AM DorianGreyed It seems to me that many fish qualify, as do several types of whales as well.
08-23-02, 03:23 PM Georgia85 The only 2 animals that can see behind itself without turning it's head are the rabbit and the parrot.... according to: amazing facts
08-23-02, 06:21 PM MilesWest The chameleon can see in front of itself and behind itself at the same time without turning its head.
08-23-02, 06:34 PM DorianGreyed Georgia, I 'm sorry to have to tell you that the site you provided has multiple errors. I found 2 on the first page I looked at.( Cheetahs are not the fastest animal, and blue whale calves do not weigh 50 tons at birth.) While I'm sure that rabbits and parrots can see behind without turning their heads, it is now obvious that many other animals can as well. Besides the pronghorn that Minnesota mentioned and the whales and fish that I mentioned, many birds can also see behind themselves without turning their heads. That site is a Trivia site, and one devoted to kids as well. Trivia sites, especially ones devoted to kids, are the worst source for trivia. The same holds true for Trivia books.

08-26-02, 10:03 AM Georgia85 What can I say...guess I'm a kid at heart! I'll do better next time!
08-27-02, 07:06 AM Fritzzs Man O' Man,, I don't believe you people....Now I know you know better... Fish, pronghorns, parrots and chameleon ARE NOT ANIMALS.... Rabbits are and Cheetas are..And Cheetas , by the way ,ARE the FASTEST animal in the world...
08-27-02, 03:50 PM Georgia85 Thought I was the only one who noticed. Why do you think I answered the way I did - but alas, how quick it was to be disregarded as WRONG!!! eek eek eek
08-27-02, 04:22 PM coldfuse Since when are fish, birds and reptiles not animals? And since when did cheetas learn to run faster than, say, peregrine falcons fly?
Something in this thread doesn't make sense!

08-27-02, 04:56 PM MilesWest Maybe donrent means "Fish, pronghorns, parrots and chameleon(s)" are not MAMMALS (but of course pronghorn antelopes are mammals.) They all are certainly animals!
08-27-02, 05:03 PM methos Not sure where you're getting your information don. Fish, chameleons, and parakeets are indeed animals.
for example, the chameleon:
****Kingdom: Animilia**** Phylum: Chordata Subphylum: Verbrata Class: Reptilia Order: Squamata Suborder: Lacertilia Family: Chamaeleonidae there are several Genus & Species of chameleons
I'd go on with the others, but the point is that they would all start with "Kingdom: Animilia" meaning that they are all animals.
08-28-02, 02:43 PM mozart56 Just thought I'd add this.
The cheetah is the fastest "on land" Up to 70 MPH"
Went to my favorite Webster knowing damn good and well I was right...Looking in the a's still knowing I was right....Saw the words "ANIMAL KINGDOM" and knew damn well I was WRONG...AHHHHHHG !! Sorry bouys and gulls....I was wrong BIGGGG Time... My apologizes.....
03-29-03, 10:59 AM WiteoutKing "And Cheetas , by the way ,ARE the FASTEST animal in the world..."
No they're not. They're the fastest LAND animal.
03-30-03, 04:07 PM Jenny Roberts Just as a matter of interest, the fastest amimal in the air is the Peregrine Falcon with speeds up to 124 mph and up to 168 mph when swooping down on prey from a great height. The fastest sea amimal is the sailfish with an incredible speed of 68.18mph. Source Guinness book of records.
03-30-03, 05:21 PM DorianGreyed While Guinness doesn't accept the following (because they didn't have a representative on hand), many sources on birds will tell of speeds over 200 mph by falcons in a stoop, a killing dive. Not really much difference if one is the prey, however.
