How have a pair of turnstones, nicknamed Fred and Freda, taken to crossing just three miles of water from Falmouth to St Mawes (Cornwall, England) rather than fly? British turnstones migrate thousands of miles every Winter and Spring between Canada, Scandinavia or Greenland and Britain so this pair have shown a novel idleness (perhaps they were tired )
I guessed this one Fred, because I've been on that boat ride between St Mawes and Falmouth..why wouldn't they take the ferry..it's a great trip! One of my favourite parts of England. Here's the Link just to please DG !
Great story ! The bird must have learned by chance that it gets breakfast (and afternoon tea) on the boat. The Times reported that the crew and passengers left crumbs for it: it must have invited its spouse to join it. What a happy picture of domestic life! Wonder if Freda has to put up with Fred reading the morning paper while ignoring her?

You think she cares about him ignoring her while reading the morning paper? It's the only time she gets away from his incessant twittering! Not only does he leave the toilet seat up, but the bird brain cancelled their winter vacation without even consulting her! The male species!
And imagine the debate every year about the Spring trip. "Not Scandinavia again!. Why can't we do Canada for a change? Mother says it's lovely at that time of year..."
