With almost 6000 recorded touchdowns in the last half of the 20th Century, this state has had more tornadoes that any other. Which state is it?

That was quick, Stephen. Nice job ! I was certain that I would get to use the Thumbs Down to someone saying that Kansas was the leader.

"Texas has the most tornadoes in the country. That has to do with its size as well as its varying climate which contributes to dangerous storm systems."

For the years 1953-1998
Texas recorded 5,722 tornadoes and 478 deaths
Kansas had 2,182, with 199 dead
Oklahoma recorded 2,379 tornadoes with 220 deaths
Alabama had 923 tornadoes but 282 deaths
Mississippi reported a lower number of 1,084 tornadoes but 387 deaths
Arkansas had 878 tornadoes and 281 deaths
