There was an article in the paper today that was kind of disturbing to me. It was about how teenage girls were becoming fond of a sweet-flavored alcoholic drink called alcopop, and that health and safety experts were worried. I know very little about drinks, and had never heard of alcopops before.

What exactly is alcopops and if they contain alcohol, where are the teens getting them from? Anyone knows?

Alcopop is not a brand, it is a recently coined word that describes a variety of sweet, carbonated alcoholic beverages like wine coolers and hard lemonades...These drinks appeal widely to women in general, young women in particular. Females have never been primarily beer drinkers and the array of these "alcopops" is generating a spike in underage female drinking due to their taste and low price, comparable to beer in most cases.
As for where they get it, the answer is the same as it's always been...parents, older friends and siblings, strangers willing to buy booze for minors loitering near stores and asleep at the wheel clerks who do not card their customers.

Thanks MrsS. I thought Alcopop was a brand of drink. Why on earth would they start grouping the coolers and giving them such a juvenile name. Alcopop sounds like a brand of pop that would be legal for teens.

yea. alcopops have been round since I was a kid. It's basically just a drink mixed to make teenaged girls come out their pants.
When I was a teenager I called it Ron's patented pant remover. As I'm sure every other teenaged boy made up their own name for that type of crap.
Basically it's just an alcoholic drink thats full of sugar... So the broads can handle it...
