Hi. My bf has severe depression, he's tried to kill himself a few times (that I know of). He thinks he is worthless, even though I tell him that he isn't and that I love him constantly. What should I do to help him get out of this? And parent help isn't going to work..
Thanks.-Larien

Your boyfriend needs help fast. If you can't talk to a parent, maybe you can speak to a school counselor. If he won't, YOU do it for him. If you don't feel comfortable talking to someone in school, call 1 800 SUICIDE. DO IT TODAY!!!

It definitely sounds like your boyfriend needs help. But he also has to want help. You cannot force it upon him. Only a doctor can, because only a doctor can deem him an immediate danger to himself.
But you can love him and support him and be there for him. You can offer him advice. Suggest that he call that 800 number, do everything you can to get him some help. Threaten, if you have to.
Why wouldn't parent help work, out of curiosity?

But Larien, take care of yourself, too. I know that you love him and care for him, but you may not be able to fox him -and certainly not by yourself. Make sure you are getting the support you need because you will be of no help to anybody if you're all worn out. Do not let yourself suffer at his expense. Having a depressed friend can be very draining, I know. Make sure that you are okay.

Wow Larien, that's a heavy burden to carry on your shoulders. I agree with jejelale. He needs help and fast. If he won't do it for himself, do it for him. It's the ultimate show of love to help someone when they won't do it for themselves. Even if you think he'll be mad. You're doing it for him, not for yourself or your relationship. If you can't (or he won't) talk to his parents, go to a school counselor or nurse, anyone that will listen and take some action. Even a neighbor. Call the suicide hotline, go to http://www.girlsandboystown.org and you can talk live to someone there without giving identity. They can give you advice on how to handle the situation and how it's affecting you, as well. This must be taking its toll on you too. Take care of yourself too. Smile
