"When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them, the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and they took wives from among those that pleased them....It was then, and later too, that the Nephilim appeared on earth - when the divine beings cohabited with the daughters of men, who bore them offspring. They were the heroes of old, the men of renown." (Genesis, Chapter 6, from the Jewish translation of the Torah.)

Some people think the divine beings were what we would call space aliens. Humans, but from another planet in another system.

The Greeks had many legends of gods interbreeding with humans.

I can't remember whether the precursors of Judaism in the middle east had demigods. I'll try to check it out today.

Wonder if they left any descendants?

The way some people I know think of themselves as superior beings, perhaps they did!

One of the Dead Sea Scrolls, "The Book Of Giants" has another take on this ancient legend. Interestingly, one of the giants is named Gilgamesh.

The link says:

"Another difference was that angels and humans interacted freely -- so freely, in fact, that some of the angels begot children with human females. This fact is neutrally reported in Genesis (6:1-4)"

The fact is it is not "neutrally reported." The Hebrew verb to describe the interaction is the equivalent of the English f-word.
