As long as the croc didn't solicit assistance from his larger cousins in other parts of the world, I would put my money on the alligator. Despite the croc's menacing show of teeth when its mouth is closed, American Alligators (up to 18 feet and 600 pounds) can grow to a larger size than American Crocodiles (up to 15 feet and 450 pounds).
The two don't often inhabit the same territory, but there is some crossover in salt marshes. Bring your boots, some good insect repellent and a comfortable folding chaise-lounge to the contest!
