I am wondering has anyone else noticed these little pests, they look like a lady bug but have gotten very pesky. I have even had them bite which leaves a red mark on the skin lately while fishing in white water. They seem to be getting more aggressive due the season changing and I guess they are about to die off. I spoke with someone who informed me they were introduced here to get rid of a certain garden pest, and now that these pest are gone they are useless. Can anyone confirm that for me?

They are from eastern Asia and were introduced in the states to control aphids...but they also say that the majority of the ones here now are actually from an accidental release in New Orleans. A very interesting article from post-gazzette.com - Health, Science & Environment follows: Asian Lady Beetles
Lydia, thanks for the site! Yep, that's the ones, they actually have pinchers on them that were biting us. It does say they were introduced accidentally, off of an Asian freighter in New Orleans, hmmmmm. What in the world were they shipping Asian ladybugs in a freighter for in the first place? Oh well, can't cry over spilt milk, lol. Wonder what will happen when the locusts come, will they eat the ladybugs?

My brother is in the pest control business. He told me just the other day that these little pests were imported to control a worm that was destroying our trees. These ladybug cousins did their job and ate the worms that destroyed the trees. But, now we have the ladybug cousin problem. Since they are attracted to light, his advice is to install a light outside of your home. With cold weather coming, they are attracted to the warmth of our homes. After freezing temps. occur, they should be gone. Good luck.
