It is a mistake to jump to the conclusion, which the reporter in the ABCnews link did, that Panderichthys is THE link between fish and amphibians. The BBC link was much more circumspect in its reporting, putting the link between Eusthenopteron and amphibians as a question. To affirm that either was THE link, the sole link, is to assume a fact not in evidence. In fact, it is very possible that like many species that live and then go extinct, they do so without leaving leaving any descendants.

True, and the whole concept of "the" missing link is a bad one. No matter how many "missing links" are found, there's always the question, well ok, where's the missing link between this thing that has been declared the "missing link" and whatever came before it.
