I live in Pennsylvania, which is VERY New England and COLD.
I sometimes see Ducks flaoting around in a very cold and partially frozen Susquehanna River. Like, I thought Ducks migrated? Are these ducks stupid? Have they lost their sense of direction? In fact, I thought I saw them frozen in place (can't be sure of that as I didn't try to walk out on the ice to look)!
Can someone give me some insight on the Defective Ducks?

What makes you think they're NOT migrating? These ducks could have flown all the way from New Brunswick to get where they are today. By next week, they could be flying V-formation over Washington D.C.

There are many kinds of ducks. Different species migrate at different times, to different places. There is nothing defective about the ducks. It is normal for some species to reside year round in the northeast too. Hunting season varies according to species. Duck season closes this year on January 26th. (That means there are still plenty of ducks around)
In my area Coots, Mergansers season is Nov 22 - Dec 1, Dec 8 - Jan 26 Sea ducks (Scoters, Eiders, and Long-tailed ducks) season is Oct 12 - Jan 26 Pintails season is Nov 22 - Dec 1, Dec 8 - Jan 26
